What Parents Must Know About Food Allergies In Children

Filed under: Sushi Restaurants — Admin @ 11:43 am

By Phoenix Delray

Food allergies are more common than ever in our children today, and there are many different foods that can be offenders and instigators of terrible allergic reactions in kids. An allergic reaction happens because of a severe over sensitivity to the dietary ingredients that are found in any offending foods. It isnt necessarily to the food itself; for example, someone that is allergic to peanuts is actually allergic to one of the components that are found in the nut, not the peanut itself.

Reactions to offending foods vary greatly from mild dry mouth to life threatening anaphylaxis. The immune system is the guilty party when it comes to food allergies because it reacts to substances that are normally harmless, thinking that it is a dangerous intruder. Unfortunately the immune system overreacts and attacks the substance, damaging the body in the process. The most common of food allergies in children by far is a peanut allergy. The good news is that about 25% of children who suffer from it will eventually outgrow it. There are many adults that suffer from this type too, though.

There is no cure for food allergies; the only way to treat it is with a diet of exclusion. Being vigilant with avoiding foods that may be contaminated with allergens, their oils, or particles is critical. Many safe foods are processed in a factory that also makes products that contain ingredients, which makes everything more complicated; this is an important piece of information for sufferers, and is listed on food labels.

Symptoms of food allergies are triggered when the body releases histamine to combat the ingredients. Histamine can induce constriction of the bronchioles in the lungs, which is also known as bronchospasm, or constriction of the airways. Someone suffering from an attack may have moderate or severe trouble breathing. Some of the other most common symptoms of a peanut allergy include vomiting and nausea, diarrhea, swelling of the lips, face, neck, and throat, and hives. Additional symptoms can include acute abdominal pain, anaphylactic shock, and sudden exacerbation of atopic eczema.

Anaphylaxis is an emergency situation that requires immediate attention, and usually needs epinephrine as a treatment. 911 should be called right away if this condition is suspected. Unfortunately for some people who have food allergies, just being in the same room with the offending products can prove to be fatal.

Cooking With Herbs While On A Budget

Filed under: Making Sushi, Sushi Restaurants, Sushi and Japanese Food — Admin @ 5:33 am

By Jarred Sadler

Herbs are fun to grow and easy to use. Herbs can be a frugal cook’s best friend because they can enhance even the simplest fare making it seem grand! Herbs are easy to grow–you can even grow them on your kitchen windowsill.

The addition of herbs can change completely the flavor of foods-from homemade breads to soups, stews and vegetables. And they can add variety and excitement to your diet.

A beginner should use herbs with care, adding a little at a time and adjusting to your own taste. Each herb has its own individual flavor and certain herbs also have well-known associations with particular foods. Basil is often paired with tomatoes, rosemary with lamb, chives with cream cheese and cottage cheese.

Fresh herbs are wonderful as garnishes. Herb vinegars can be used in salad dressings, soups and marinades. You can also add fresh herbs to mayonnaise or butter for a different flavor.

Fresh herbs will keep in the refrigerator for several days. A good way to freeze herbs such as basil, oregano, and dill is to chop, place in ice cube trays, cover with water and freeze. Then just add to stews and sauces when needed.

Some easy herbs to grow are lemon balm, rosemary, oregano, dill, basil, parsley, peppermint, lavendar, sage. Of course, you can buy herbs to cook with at the supermarket, also.

Here are some simple recipes to get you started using herbs in your cooking.

Lemon Chive Dressing

1 clove garlic

dash of salt

Rind of 1 lemon, finely grated

and the juice

1 1/2 teaspoons mustard

4 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons chopped chives

Put the garlic and salt in a bowl and crush together. Add lemon rind, juice and mustard, stirring until smooth. Slowly whisk in the oil. Fold in chives and season with black pepper, if desired.

This is a good dressing to pour over warm, cooked new potatoes. Add finely chopped green onions.

Mint Iced Tea

Wash 8 sprigs of fresh mint, 12 inches long (any mint, spearmint, peppermint, applemint will do). Place in blender with 4 cups water and liquefy. Let it set for about 1/2 hour and strain.

Herb Butter

1/2 cup butter

4 tablespoons fresh herbs or 2 teaspoons of dried herbs

Soften the butter to room temperature. Finely chop the fresh herbs. Blend herbs and butter well. Store in fridge.

Use to season vegetables, as a spread on bread, biscuits or baked potatoes. Anywhere you normally use butter.

Here’s something different: not really cooking, but a recipe that you might find fun! Basil-Lemon Facial Mask

Pulverize a handful of fresh basil leaves. Peel 1/2 of an avocado and mash. Add avocado to basil in blender, along with 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1 teaspoon honey. Mix until smooth.

Apply to clean face and leave as long as desired. Rinse off with lukewarm water.

In short, you don’t have to be an herb specialist to learn to enjoy using herbs.

Can You Stay Healthy on a Raw Vegan Diet?

Filed under: Making Sushi, Sushi Restaurants, Sushi and Japanese Food — Admin @ 11:40 am

By Paul Fitzgerald

  In the beginning…

First they started advocating to the world not to eat animal products but still they ate eggs, poultry products and honey. They called themselves, vegetarians. Some of these people did not stop there, they raised the level and started advocating not to eat eggs, milk, honey and cheese. They called themselves vegans. If the vegetarians where a little loose, these vegans where stricter. Vegans did just not limit themselves on a diet but also went further to have a lifestyle and a more passionate advocacy. They stood up against animal rights, the environment, human health, spiritual and religious issues. They also excluded everything that uses animals for clothing and other purposes. They also focused on issues such as factory farming and animal testing.

However the story does not end there. The vegans still raised upped the ante, they brought it to the next level. They are now eating food raw and organic. The vegans call it the raw vegan diet or the raw food diet. And if you think they are crazy, then just look at this list of the celebrities who advocate it.

Sting from the band The Police, actress Angela Bassett, actor Woody Harrelson, David Bowie, actress Lisa Bonet, actor Robin Williams, designer Donna Karan, actress Alicia Silverstone, Chef Charlie Trotter, Canadian rocker Bif Naked, socialite Nicole Richie, nutritionist David Wolfe and actress Demi Moore.

So what makes raw food diet tick? Raw food diet is very healthy because it energizes the body, helps those who suffer migraines, eliminates toxins, prevent cancer, and has a stabilizing effect on body weight which reduces fat. Raw food diet lowers the risk of colon cancer, prostrate cancer, heart attack, high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure and strokes. Raw food digest pretty well ,so a persons body has no acid, bile or residual effects of digestion that is felt with a cooked food diet. Raw food creates perfect nutrition without any fat production.

Raw food diet is organic because the diet does not include fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and legumes that where expose to pesticides and other chemicals. It is raw because it does not eat foods that have been processed and preservatives .It does not cook food. If food is heated, it is not suppose to go over 112 degrees Fahrenheit so that the enzymes that are found in the plant’s cell structure will be preserved.

So our story ends here. The story about vegetarians and vegans. The story about their raw food diet, why it is healthy, why it is raw and organic. Our story, this article ends here. The end.

Have an amazing day everybody!

You Can Save More Money Than You Think When You Shop

Filed under: Making Sushi, Sushi and Japanese Food — Admin @ 10:10 pm

By Aydan Corkern

When you go shopping, there are a few way to save some money. Looking at prices is a way to save on clothes, shoes, and many other things. You can go online to buy things and some things are much cheaper than they are in local stores. Do not buy expensive clothes because you will just be wasting your money and it will not be worth it. Buy cheaper food like rice, beans, chicken, and many other foods that you can afford without breaking the bank. They also will last you a long time. Make a list when you go shopping or any time you go get food.

If you want to save money, look in the paper before you go to the store so you know where it is cheaper. This will help you save a lot of money every week or every month. If you stock up on food that will last you weeks or the whole month, it will save you money. It is a good idea to basic cooking staples on hand like noodles, rice, oil, and flour so it is easier to prepare meals at home. Go to the store on the weekends because sometimes the sales are better and you get a lot more.

Another way to save money is to cut out coupons so you can get what you need cheaper than what it normally is. Coupons can help you get more things and it can help you stock up. Did you know that if you go to the store a lot, you spend more money than going once a month? It is true. When you pay for things here and there, you spend more money than you, but if you go once a month, you will spend one price and no more. Go to different stores, and never just shop at one store because other stores will have different prices that will save you money on your food budget. Stop buying so much junk food and this will definitely save you some cash. Buying in larger quantities or bulk is always cheaper too.

Going to the store once a month will also save you on gas, which will also help you save money. If you are shopping for clothes, you can look for things on clearance. Clothes always get cheaper when the season changes, so all you have to do is to wait for new merchandise to come out and the older clothing will usually go on sale.

Cooking Gourment For Pleasures

Filed under: Sushi Restaurants, Sushi and Japanese Food — Admin @ 10:20 am

By Jackson Sloat

Gourmet cooking is a style of food preparation that deals with the finest and freshest possible ingredients. This means that to enjoy authentic gourmet food you must prepare your food immediately after purchasing the fresh ingredients that will comprise your meals. Not only do you want to purchase the freshest ingredients when cooking gourmet meals but you also want to insure that you are purchasing ingredients of superior quality.

Those who excel at gourmet cooking and food preparation have many options available to them. From catering to opening up their own restaurant these talented individuals who are entrepreneurial in spirit often do quite well in the world of business if their talent is sufficient.

When it comes to cooking gourmet food the two rules mentioned above are the only hard and fast rules. Everything else is purely a matter of adventure and taste. Now this doesn’t mean that any and everyone can become a gourmet cook simply by going out and purchasing the finest and freshest of ingredients and throwing them into a pot. There is some degree of art involved when it comes to gourmet cooking and a large degree of skill that is necessary in order to achieve these culinary masterpieces.

You should also understand and be prepared to discover that fresh ingredients are not always available so there are times when compromises must be made when cooking gourmet meals. For this reason you capitalize on what is in season and plan your meals accordingly whenever possible. One important quality when it comes to cooking gourmet food is the layering of flavors. You should be able to taste the meat or seafood as well as the vegetables, herbs, and spices that comprise your skillfully prepared meal.

You should not however rely on taste or aroma alone when cooking gourmet foods. As I mentioned above gourmet cooking is a large degree skill but there is some degree of art involved. For this reason, presentation is a key component of the gourmet dining experience. Through a few freshly chopped herbs on the plate before placing the food or top the food with appealing and aromatic herbs that will compliment the flavor of the meal you have prepared. Present the fruits and vegetable sides in a visually appealing fashion rather than simply tossing them onto a plate.

With proper presentation even foods that were simple to prepare can take on the flavor of a gourmet feast. This is something you should keep in mind whether your cooking plans for the evening involve the gourmet or the every day. The thing about gourmet cooking is that it is to some degree more art than science. This means that there is always room to improve your skills and stretch your limits as a cook. There will always be the next great challenge or the ‘what if’ when it comes to flavor combinations.

In fact, some of the greatest foods began with someone asking, “What would happen if I added this?” Always ask what if and always seek to improve your skills. The good news if this is an avenue you wish to pursue is that there are often gourmet cooking classes offered at gourmet food shops in your area. Some colleges or local community programs will also offer these sorts of classes for a few if you are interested. This means that there are almost always opportunities to broaden your experiences with gourmet cooking and expand your horizons.

Whether this is your first time considering gourmet cooking or you are an old pro, keep in mind that skills can be learned over time with the proper motivation and an open and honest desire to learn. If you want to learn more about gourmet cooking there is really nothing to stop you from doing so other than yourself. The Internet, your local library, and many bookstores across the country have countless volumes of information that can help you get started on your journey to gourmet cooking bliss.
